Message of the President of the World Quality Commitment - Paris 2010

It is a deep honor to have been elected World Quality Commitment president and I join the presentation of the International Award with great enthusiasm for the business community and optimism about its future.

BID form a distinguished and distinctive business organization of outstanding quality. Traditional emphasis on both quality and leadership, symbolized by the rays of the star on the trophy, has remained consistently strong and influential over the past 21 years. That tradition is realized today in the novel content contributed by QC100 creators, passionate about both theory and practice. For more than 21 years the award and the QC100 Quality Model — standing on the pillars of collaborative projects and rooted in an imaginative synthesis of engineering and science with the arts, the humanities, and the larger social context — have served as inspiration to awardees well recognized for important work, for leadership and for fulfilling lives. BID are a leading team of what Sultan Al Khady referred to as "the imaginative consideration of leadership and quality."

Today, the role which QC100 plays in the business community is significantly different than when BID began in Spain and the USA over 21 years ago. Our mission has extended far beyond that of recognition, to become much more of a catalyst in creating strong, quality-driven business communities by building partnerships, each working towards a common goal.

We are deeply committed to listening to community entrepreneurs, to CEOs, to founders, to supporters in business and labor, to service providers, and to making responsive and informed decisions. Our strategic leadership plan is based on the priority issues that we have been able to identify as being important to the long-term leader and well-being of our international business community.

We have adopted some very simple guidelines to help us focus on what matters. As we look to the future:

  • We must be vigilant about addressing root causes of business results and conditions, bringing together all of the different sectors to address what matters to all of us.

  • We need to support and promote stability in times of technological and sectorial changes.

  • We need to promote opportunities for learning and sharing best practices.

  • And we need to work together differently, engaging all sectors in our work.

I am very pleased to be a part of this International Quality Convention, and I want to assure you that our sponsors and its 100,000 associate companies will continue to do what matters — and that is improve the well-being of people who live in our global community.

We have nurtured various strategic businesses and established the QC100 business model by utilizing our strengths — speed, spirit of innovation and high efficiency. Meanwhile, we strengthened the financial base that supports our business portfolio by completing the "intensive improvement in asset quality" and fully reinventing the public interests.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, the staff, the volunteers and the thousands of people throughout BID, and its sponsors who benefit from the support of our members, I want to say thank you for your commitment and your generous contributions to the world of leadership and quality.
